The Problem

A large share of building fires in Nigeria start with an electrical fault, and the fault usually starts at the distribution board. That board tells you nothing. It cannot feel the heat rising inside its own enclosure. It cannot flag a circuit pulling more than it should. And it cannot be switched off by anyone who is not standing in front of it with a hand on the breaker. Most owners find out something was wrong after the smoke.

AEI's Technology

SEMS replaces that board with one that pays attention. Every channel is metered for voltage, current, power and energy consumed, while heat, smoke and flame sensors watch the inside of the enclosure itself. Channels switch on a schedule, or shed themselves automatically when voltage sags or total load crosses a set limit, with essential circuits held back from the cull. Owners work from a web dashboard or the Android app. When the router dies, control moves to Bluetooth and keeps running from the phone in the room. Built on the ESP32, from parts you can buy in Nigerian markets.

GSM Smart Prepaid Energy Meter

The Problem

Conventional prepaid energy meters require stable grid connectivity and centralised vending infrastructure. In off-grid communities, neither exists. Mini-grid operators have no reliable mechanism for revenue collection, and consumers have no way to monitor their consumption.

AEI's Technology

AEI's smart prepaid meter operates entirely over a GSM mobile network. Credit is loaded via text message; the meter monitors consumption in real time and disconnects the load automatically when the balance is zero. Field validation across multiple sites confirmed measurement accuracy within ±2%.
